The Bride and her Bridesmaids V.01 – The Presents

Time flew by so fast from the invitations to our first meeting to prepare the presents for Nina. It was dominated by drinking wine, laughter and talking about our memories with Nina. But we had a mission and needed to come up with an idea. Luckily we had Olivia as our think tank and she came up with a lot of different and cute things.

Finally the idea of crocheting something for her was made up and we started thinking what she would like. After a couple more glasses we decided to crochet her a blanket with a lot of little doilies.

After that important step we sorted out our appointments. When we met the first time a few of us brought our mothers because, to be honest, we weren’t the best in school when it came to crocheting. Accidentally Olivia’s Mum was our handwork teacher back in the days so she invited her to join us and teach us how to crochet. Her Mum was surprised to see all her former pupils reassembled and ambitious to learn how to crochet.

Silvi threw her hands over her head in horror in order to teach us the handiwork. Again. With the support of our Mum’s we managed after a few hours to get into the fancy work. Even the engineer tried his luck with the needle and started crocheting his own doily. It was so hilarious to watch him doing it, with a cigarette in the corner of the mouth and a coffee in front of him, he glided deeper into his chair and you could hear the needles and him mumbling swear words. Olivia’s Mum managed to run to everyone who needed help. Believe me, that wasn’t an easy job to do. Three or four hours later we were at a good pace. It was even possible for us to start tattling again without failing.

When we met the second time we already had a couple of doilies made ourselves at home and it was easier to talk while crocheting. Another idea came up on the horizon what to present to Nina and Stefan. It was our plan to do a karaoke version of “I am woman by Helen Reddy”. The track is in the movie Sex and the City 2 and the girls are singing it in Abu Dhabi in a karaoke bar.

As we are all strong characters and tough women it’s a miracle that we are not bitching around, it was the best decision to do this song. It was the perfect way to say thank you for choosing us as bridesmaids and to give her back some of the love she showed us all the years.

I am woman, hear me roar / in numbers too big to ignore / And I know too much to go back an’ pretend / ’cause I’ve heard it all before / And I’ve been down there on the floor / No one’s ever gonna keep me down again / Oh yes I am wise / But it’s wisdom born of pain / Yes, I’ve paid the price / But look how much I gained / If I have to, I can do anything / I am strong (strong) / I am invincible (invincible) / I am woman / You can bend but never break me / ’cause it only serves to make me / More determined to achieve my final goal / And I come back even stronger / Not a novice any longer / ’cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

Time went by so fast and with the Hen Night in Prague the Wedding was within reach.
